‘100 for the Ocean’ gathers one hundred artists for a limited-time sale at affordable prices. The aim of the initiative is to sustain organisations dedicated to safeguarding the ocean by amplifying their work with robust and valuable communication packages and support. Founded by Paul Nicklen, Cristina Mittermeier (part of our jury for the Global open call and who recently published her book ‘Hope’), and Chase Teron, 100 for the Ocean wish to create a collective voice to inspire change and demonstrate that taking care of our planet is possible through cooperation and mutual support. “What makes this month-long fundraiser so impactful is its ability to rally people together around a shared cause. It s a testament to the power of community and collaboration, as 100 photographers and artists join forces with supporters from around the world to amplify our message and drive change.” says Chase Teron, "Together, we re proving that when we harness the power of art and photography, we can create a brighter, more sustainable future for our planet.

There are moments like this when I simply happen to be in the right place at the right time, my eye trained on the tiny signals of life stirring beneath the surface. I waited until one of the orcas we had been watching rose from the water to peek at our boat just as a gull was swooping down from the skies. For a split second, it was like all the forces of nature conspired for the perfect composition.Cristina Mittermeier

That s why 100 for the Ocean decided to support 3 under-recognised realities committed to the ocean s preservation. In doing so, 100 for the Ocean collaborated with SeaLegacy, which will give media and production support to the cause, in order to amplify their voice and build a compelling narration. The three beneficiaries of the 2024 100 for the Ocean are Coral Gardeners, Young Ocean Explorers, and Ocean Initiative, chosen for the integrity of their work and their access to the visual storytelling component. “Science is a vital part of conservation, but science alone can’t save species," say Rob Williams and Erin Ashe from Oceans Initiative, “At Oceans Initiative, we are motivated by curiosity, awe, and wonder.

"What is so great about 100 for the Ocean is that it is accessible to many people who want to help protect our planet but aren t sure where to start. Our goal isn t just to raise funds for ocean initiatives; it s to start the conversation between those behind the lens and those at home. We want to share the stories of our planet with you, create that connection, and make a lasting impact for the collective good of our planet."
- Cristina Mittermeier, co-founder, 100 for the Ocean
