The Super Bowl halftime-performance bar has been set very high over the last few years (especially in fashion terms), but this year’s big event—which featured Kendrick Lamar and SZA (plus Mustard, Samuel L. Jackson, and Serena Williams) and contained some very specific accessory-related beef escalation with Drake—was particularly thrilling. Below, find quite literally every thought I had during Lamar’s set:

  1. Kendrick’s “A” neckace…what is it for? Altadena? …Aubrey?
  2. Oh, duh. It’s an A minor.
  3. Between this and Doechii’s Grammys performance, group choreo is so back.
  4. This red, white, and blue outfit formation is making me crave American-flag cake, which should really be normalized on Super Bowl Sunday and not just July 4th.
  5. “I wasn’t expecting Uncle Sam,” to quote one of my colleagues.
  6. More than one person has told me they’re thinking back fondly to The Weeknd’s halftime performance in 2021.
  7. “Not Like Us” time!
  8. I know Drake is having such a bad time at whatever Super Bowl party he’s currently ruining.
  9. SZA!!!!
  10. In a gorgeous red outfit, no less.
  11. Okay, SZA is singing, and I’m crying thinking about how many times I’ve driven a ridiculous number of miles for a stupid reason listening to this woman’s music.
  12. “That’s what America wants! Nice, calm!”
  13. Other past Super Bowl moments being referenced positively in the Vogue Slack include J.Lo, Shakira, and Gaga jumping weird.
  14. Once again, the “A minor!” line killed.
  15. Also: Fellow Compton native Serena Williams!!
  16. Go Birds!
  17. Sorry, last thought: Kendrick’s “A” necklace exists in the same universe as Taylor Swift’s “T” thigh pendant.
