As bizarre as life can be, two-ish years into a pandemic, there are a few things we can all count on: The sun will rise, the ocean waves will churn, and people will absolutely freak out about Oscar nominations. That was certainly the case this morning, when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its 2022 nominations.
This year’s Oscars, scheduled for Sunday, March 27, have some heavy favorites: Jane Campion’s hit Western The Power of the Dog racked up 12 nominations, with married costars Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons each scoring their first nods.
