In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, the weather across the country is perfect for curling up in front of the television (or your laptop!) and streaming some recent releases. Sure, the fourth Thursday in November is more traditionally regarded as a time to gather with family, but let’s be real; if you do your holiday feasting right, you’ll be too sleepy from trytophan to focus on much more than the plot of a good TV show. Below, find a roundup of everything we can’t wait to watch this Friday through Sunday:
Bread Roses
This documentary, which follows three Afghan women as they attempt to cope with the Taliban’s takeover of their country in 2021, was directed and produced by Sahra Mani and counts none other than Malala Yousafzai and Jennifer Lawrence as producers. Examining the effects of religious fundamentalism—and the people in Afghanistan bravely fighting against it—the film is as thoughtful as it is eye-opening.

The Sex Lives of College Girls
Everyone’s favorite quartet of lovably messy college girls is back for the third season of this Max show from Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble. While the departure of breakout star Reneé Rapp is a definite downside (although not surprising, given she’s a full-fledged pop star now), it’s still a delight to catch up with Alyah Chanelle Scott’s Whitney, Amrit Kaur’s Bela, and Pauline Chalamet’s Kimberly as they attempt to make their mark on the fictional Essex College.

National Women’s Soccer League 2024 Championship
The Orlando Pride will face off against the Washington Spirit in this weekend’s championship women’s soccer game at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Orlando is coming off a hot streak, having won a whopping 23 of their 26 games this season, but the Spirit has Ashley Hatch (one of the NSWL’s all-time leading scorers) and a host of other standout players, so it is, as they say, anyone’s game. Tune in for kickoff time on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST to catch all of the action.
How to watch: Enjoy the game live on CBS or stream it on Paramount+.
A Man on the Inside
Is there anyone on this planet who doesn’t love Ted Danson (aside from Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Larry David, maybe)? Luckily for us all, Danson is the lead of a new Netflix series about a retired professor hired by a private investigator to go undercover inside a San Francisco retirement home. While I refuse to accept that Danson is technically of retirement-home-appropriate age, I still can’t wait to devour this comedy.

Cruel Intentions
Though Hollywood has, without a doubt, produced far too many reboots, Prime Video’s new take on the 2000 film Cruel Intentions—developed by Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman (Gossip Girl)—is still intriguing. Apparently, star Zac Burgess, who steps into Ryan Philippe’s iconic role as Sebastian Valmont, is young enough to have never seen the original movie, which horrifies me slightly (how old am I, exactly?)—but, creatively speaking, the new cast’s distance from the OG text is probably a good thing.
