Once upon a time in New York City, the fashion calendar included men’s week—as it
does in other fashion capitals. But after a few seasons of American designers choosing
to show abroad, and others consolidating their men’s and women’s collections into co-
ed shows (this was before we saw the current spike in genderless offerings), men’s
week became men’s day. New York Men’s Day (NYMD) is an initiative run by public
relations agency Agentry PR, and this time around it was sponsored by Canadian
outerwear brand Nobis. The biannual showcase happens every year during New York
Fashion Week, and it hosts a range of emerging and established designers showing
contemporary menswear and genderless collections. It groups together all labels under
one space, a one-stop-shop for editors, buyers, and other guests to peruse the
collections all in one place—basically menswear’s version of Charlie’s Chocolate
Factory.
This time around, NYMD was hosted in Hudson Yards in Manhattan at Daylight Studios
and Location05, occupying three floors and allowing each brand to take over a loft for
their individual displays. Teddy Vonranson staged a lifted runway with models walking in
a loop in front of an image he took at Joshua Tree, his inspiration for the collection.
Aaron Potts of genderless label A.Potts staged a presentation, as did menswear brand
Terry Singh.

the golden ticket to participate in the showcase this season:
Amirok
Now in its third season showing at NYMD, the Italian label designed by Michael Nelson
founded in 2019 is a knitwear-focused label crafted from 100% recycled mulberry silk.
This season, the label partnered with artisans from Botswana to develop custom
sequins made from ostrich shells to spice up their spring offering.
A.Potts
Founded by Aaron Potts in 2018, the genderless label is now on its fifth season at
NYMD. Potts is known for his hulking A-line silhouettes and genderless outlook on cut
and fit. A look from his fall 2021 collection is currently on view at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art’s “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” exhibition.
Atelier Cillian
The New York-based label helmed by British-American designer Stephen Mikhail is
known for its blend of quintessential tailoring and delicate draping.
Fried Rice
The genderless label is founded on the principle of diversity and inspired by the blend of
cultural perspectives in urban life. Fried Rice was named after the way the popular dish
balances a myriad of flavors and ingredients, just like a city like New York contains a
variety of coexisting perspectives. The label is known for its workwear inspired
silhouettes designed with an eccentric and idiosyncratic twist.
Holo Market
The Kyoto-based label was founded in 2019 by hand-printing artisan Riki Yoshida. Its
menswear is known for its unique fabrics.
Nobis
The title sponsor this season. A Canadian outdoor powerhouse founded in
2007 and making its NYMD debut this season.
Nicholas Raefski
Showing for a second time at NYMD this season, the American brand was founded in
2020 and has developed a lexicon including singular prints and a quirky take on
menswear essentials.
SO.TY
Founded by Neil Montgomery, founder and CEO of Sovereignty Company, a sustainable
circular social enterprise and nonprofit, SO. TY is led by designer Charles Harbison.
This season is the brand’s debut at NYMD.
Teddy Vonranson
Worn by the likes of Sebastian Stan and Oscar Isaac, the New York City-based label
was founded in 2018 by industry veteran Teddy von Ranson. He worked at Ralph
Lauren for 15 years before launching his label, which is reflected in his pragmatic vision
for menswear.
Terry Singh
A menswear label founded in 2014 by Terry Singh showing at NYMD for the first time
this season. Singh makes “clothes that celebrate your freedom,” and this season
focused his assortment on tailoring and a variety of skirts.
Todd Patrick
Designed by Desyree Nicole and founded in 2017, Todd Patrick is a menswear label
focused on diversifying the concept of high-end streetwear.
