Missoni, the family-owned Italian brand known for its fine kaleidoscopic knits, is making some changes. Angela Missoni, creative director since 1996, will become the company’s president. We don’t yet know who will fill her role, but whoever that is will have a wealth of material to work with.
The company was founded 68 years ago, in 1953, by Ottavio (Tai) Missoni and Rosita Missoni. Together they coaxed wonders from Raschel knitting machines, finding ways to create a mélange of a broad palette of colors and patterns, and, of course, form the brand’s signature zigzagged flame stitch.
For more than 20 years Angela Missoni has navigated between past and present, as she balanced heritage with contemporary relevance. With her daughter, Margherita Maccapani Missoni Amos, Angela introduced the ease of knitwear to a new, active generation, who demand comfort and style from their garments and find it in Missoni’s colorful, gossamer knits.
