In our experience, there are two types of people in the late stages of summer. You’re either the type who holds on to every last bit of sun (dining al fresco, taking a dip in the pool, and drinking rooftop rosé) or you’re the one hiding away from the insufferable heat, plotting your fall wardrobe as you wait for the first signs of the change in the season. Students are beginning to return to school, NFL preseason is in full swing, and Labor Day, the last summer holiday, signals the return back to regular life. If you’re one of those people who has had it with summer and wants to revel in air conditioning, cuddled up with a movie, or new show to inevitably binge, you’re in luck. Netflix just announced which films and shows are joining its platform in August.
With new additions each month, the streaming service is giving the people what they want: Academy Award–winning movies (No Country for Old Men and Million Dollar Baby), films that will make you cry (P.S. I Love You and Steel Magnolias), and old favorites. (The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement came out 14 years ago. Can you believe it? We can’t!) There is also a plethora of original content joining the group: from true-crime series like I Am a Killer to Mr. Sunshine, an original period piece that will stream each Saturday. This month also brings All About the Washingtons, a scripted comedy starring Joseph Simmons, aka Rev. Run, and his wife, Justine.
