Carrie Coon isn’t paying homage to either of her iconic characters—Laurie Duffy in The White Lotus (a role that she’s nominated for in the category of best supporting actress) and Bertha Russell in The Gilded Age—at the 2025 Emmy Awards. “Just exposed shoulders for vulnerability and maximum advantage for my Mia Farrow-esque cut and style,” the actor tells Vogue. And yes, the blonde bob we’ve known and loved is gone, gone, gone!
Tonight, she’s wearing full Chanel. First, a moment for the dress: ice-blue chiffon, designed by the Chanel atelier. It took 341 hours to create the gown, which included hand-making the roughly 300 different organza flowers, feathers, and crystals that adorn it. She’s also wearing high jewelry from the house, including 18-carat white gold diamond earrings and the Jeanne ring. “I wanted structure and ease—a reflection of how settled I feel in my life right now,” Coon says of the look. “Lightness of being and celebration. What’s wrong with a little romance?”
When it comes to beauty, only a fresh face would do. “Carrie has extraordinary skin and bright blue eyes,” makeup artist Kate Lee says. “I wanted to keep the skin fresh and play with subtle opposing colors to make the irises pop.” That included a light and radiant foundation and smoky shades of browny-nude from the Les 4 Ombres quad Candeur et Expérience and a liner in a similar shade. And then there’s Coon’s favorite beauty ritual on the night: “My ultimate indulgence is Chanel Sublimage L’Extrait de Nuit on my hands.”
While she may not be channeling her characters on the red carpet tonight, Coon does think she has something in common with each of them: “The most Bertha thing about me is my confidence,” Coon reflects. “The most Laurie thing: my uninhibited dancing.” Party on.
