From front-row styling to objectionable social media filters, this week was all about transformative beauty—for better or for worse. Nail artist Mei Kawajiri shared a selfie snapped by Dua Lipa featuring Kawajiri s work (claws painted in a metallic magenta) along with dewy skin and an onyx eye mask sure to result in an additional rejuvenating glow. Selena Gomez s glamorous transformation—as shared by makeup artist Hung Vanngo—set the bar for this year s SAG Awards red carpet, mussed chop and bare face exchanged for a sleek bowed updo and peachy-nude palette that had onlookers yearning for spring. 

For Alicia Keys, the best sort of transformation centers on a change of attitude (hint: she cares not for your opinion), while Yara Shahidi and her mother Keri went for makeovers of the aesthetic sort, prepping for Dior s fall 2022 show with highly stylized updos, each a study in playful texture. But Paulina Porizkova s transformation came with a serious message: The model posted a side-by-side of the same selfie, one untouched, one funneled through a filtering app to startling (and sobering) effect. Porizkova called the original image “reality” and the second “propaganda," her natural beauty and accompanying caption reminding followers that it s always better to get real.
