Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel fashion and Chanel SAS, was decorated as an officer of the French Order of Merit by President Emmanuel Macron during a ceremony at the Élysée Palace on Wednesday night. The National Order of Merit is a French honorary distinction created in 1963 by General Charles de Gaulle to distinguish civil achievements. Pavlovsky was previously recognised as a knight of the Order of Merit and a knight of the Légion d Honneur.
Pavlovsky is president of both fashion and Chanel SAS (the maison’s operating company), and, since July 2022, has been president of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, the French fashion industry’s governing body, which notably oversees Paris Fashion Week.
The brand’s Hong Kong show was a marker of its bullish belief in China’s future as a driver of growth.

“This recognition, which honours me, is not that of a solitary career,” Pavlovsky shared with Vogue Business ahead of the ceremony. “It is the recognition of a collective effort to create. It’s this shared energy, this pleasure in doing things together, that has always driven me. I have the immense luxury — and this is not a figure of speech — of making people dream, and that, believe me, is a privilege I measure every day.”
After an MBA at Harvard Business School, Pavlovsky began his career at consulting firm Deloitte before joining Chanel in 1990. He became president of Chanel fashion in 2004, adding president of Chanel-owned swimwear brand Eres in 2007, president of Chanel SAS in 2018, and, since 2021, president of Le 19M, Chanel’s building in the northeast of Paris, which houses its Métiers d’Art.
