Each season of 2024 seemed to have a signature shade, which transferred to hands and toes everywhere. Vogue takes a look back at the four colors of 2024—and what inspired the fervor.

In the beginning of the year, butter yellows—believed to stimulate energy and happiness—reigned supreme, with everyone from Selena Gomez to Rihanna giving the shade a go (to say nothing of fashion’s obsession with it). The key to mastering the look, according to A-list manicurist Tinu Bello? “Opt[ing] for creamy, [pastel] colors instead of bold shades.”
Summer

Charli xcx’s Brat girl summer didn’t just influence our wardrobes in 2024; it came for our nails as well. Slime green talons were a fixture in London during the summer months (bonus points if you bedazzled your talons).
Autumn

Autumn was all about cinnamon-spiced drinks and manis, as seen on Hailey Bieber. Also trending throughout the fall? Apple cider and milk chocolate nails. All in all, a good season to be a mani-pedi obsessive with a sweet tooth. Expect the latter to remain popular in 2025, with Pantone declaring “mocha mousse” the color of the year.
Winter

Somehow managing to be both edgy and festive all at once, black cherry has firmly established itself as the standout mani-pedi shade for winter 2024 (with a little help from enthusiast Kylie Jenner). Just looking at brings winter berries and mulled wine to mind.
