“Welcome to Los Angeles” toasted Vogue’s Lisa Love at a dinner last night at the Chateau Marmont honoring Diane von Furstenberg’s new chief creative officer, Jonathan Saunders. Guests gathered for cocktails in the middle of the candlelit Hollywood hotel garden, where long tables under an autumn tent played host to Los Angeles fixtures Rachel Zoe, Katherine Ross, and Petra Flannery, who sipped Champagne and showed Saunders the best of what the West Coast has to offer. As guests began sitting for dinner, Hollywood starlets Rainey Qualley, Nathalie Love, and Carson Meyer (all clad in Saunders’s Spring collection for DVF) could be seen at one table, while across the garden, Saunders sat with and complimented both Bella Heathcote and Alycia Debnam-Carey on their DVF looks. As trays of roasted chicken and Dover sole were served family-style, the conversation seemed to be the chicest game of musical chairs one had ever seen, never one person staying in their seat for too long. And just when the conversation couldn’t get any livelier, Lisa Love presented Saunders with a triple-berry shortcake delicacy in honor of his upcoming birthday—after which he stood and thanked the crowd, and Lisa Love, for showing him why he needed to come back to Los Angeles more often.
