Can drinking an infusion every morning improve your entire day? Maybe. After all, experts say our morning routine has a huge impact on how we feel—and that a good one can improve physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
But when it comes to what the ideal morning routine should consist of, opinions vary. Some recommend drinking a warm cup of water and lemon; others swear by a green juice or protein shake. The list goes on and on.
Here’s another idea to add to the list: an infusion made from cinnamon, green tea, ginger, and turmeric. I adopted it five years ago on the recommendation of my nutritionist, and it completely changed my life. I feel lighter, more satiated, and have more energy. My digestion has improved. On the days I don’t drink it, I definitely notice its absence.
On their own, each of the four ingredients are known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. But together, their powers are amplified, benefiting digestion, intestinal inflammation, and more.
Cinnamon and green tea help regulate blood sugar; the latter also accelerates metabolism and improves physical performance. Ginger relieves nausea, strengthens the immune system, and helps reduce blood sugar levels when taken on an empty stomach. Turmeric—from the same family as ginger—provides small amounts of fiber, protein, vitamins C, E and K, as well as minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc.
The recipe is simple and adapts to the portions you need. I prepare a batch on Sunday evenings: I boil the water, tweak with the ratios, and create a pitcher-full that lasts me all week. 30 seconds in the microwave each morning is enough to bring it to the ideal drinking temperature and get all its benefits.
When combined with healthy habits such as regular exercise, meditation, sleeping at least seven hours each night, and eating a balanced diet, this recipe has helped me start the morning with more energy and clarity. Of course, you should consult your health care professional before starting any routine or making changes to your own diet—especially if you have medical conditions, are pregnant, or are taking medications or anticoagulants.
