Prepare to be dazzled. Adele Bloch-Bauer, the Viennese beauty who was immortalized Byzantine mosaic–style in gold by the painter Gustav Klimt, is the subject of a new exhibition at the Neue Galerie and a movie of the same name, The Woman in Gold, starring Helen Mirren. As if in anticipation for these events, the just-ended fall collections glittered with gold. Designers used metallic sequins, glittering jacquards, and Lurex-shot knits to enliven an otherwise dark-hued season. In homage to Klimt, we searched the Vogue archive for these gleaming gowns; they’ll also provide inspiration for Met Gala dressing—after all, gold’s best foil is the red carpet.
