As we continue to spend more time indoors, spring cleaning beckons. But while cleaning your home may be good for the soul, it is not always good for the environment and for your health. Most conventional cleaning products are petroleum-based and have various health and environmental implications. According to the EPA, cleaning products “may contain chemicals associated with eye, skin, or respiratory irritation, or other human health issues.” From reducing single-use plastic consumption to ditching your air fresheners, there are multiple ways you can make cleaning more sustainable and less toxic. One of the easiest ways to go green all year long is to introduce the everyday use of environmentally friendly cleaning products.

As you get started, it is important to know which products to use. A lot of brands claim to be “natural,” but are not necessarily telling the truth since they aren’t required to list their ingredients on a product or even online. Most products that are truly better will be transparent about the ingredients and explicitly state them on the packaging or label. When in doubt, here are some reliable and sustainable cleaning products to make your transition to a greener home that much easier.
