Though the headband still reigns supreme over all other hair accessories, the latest runway collections have revealed what’s next—the tiny hair clip. We first saw them at Coach in the label’s Juergen Teller–photographed look book that features the likes of Paloma Elsesser and Kaia Gerber (Coach also produced a cinematic presentation that wonderfully mish-mashed Mean Girls and Friends, starring notables like Megan Thee Stallion, Michael B. Jordan, and Jennifer Lopez.) Coach’s clips—bobby pins festooned with plastic smiling cats and tiny white strawberries—were worn down middle-parted hair, fastened on either side; a small way to add a big dose of cheer to your look.
We also saw clips at Fendi, at Kim Jones’s anticipated debut ready-to-wear collection for the Italian fashion house. For the occasion, Jones sent down a gradation of monochromatic looks that shifted from camel to putty-colored grey to white and finally a jet black. “The looks were all in neutral shades, both to reflect the mineral colors of the city and the organic shades that have dominated in Fendi’s history,” wrote Vogue’s Luke Leitch. Decorating the locks of most all the models was a grown-up version of the hair clip—an elegant, thin strand in gold tones. They were worn just above the ears, like a preface to the earrings (artful hoops that looped-de-looped), and added a subtle touch of practical glamour.
