Five years after Paul Walker’s untimely death in a car crash, the Fast and the Furious star will be remembered in a new documentary with definite potential to make fans cry. The first trailer for I Am Paul Walker, premiering on the Paramount Network on August 11, debuted on Thursday, featuring the late actor’s family, colleagues, and costars like Tyrese Gibson. It is directed by Adrian Buitenhuis, who also directed the emotional documentary I Am Heath Ledger for Spike.
The trailer opens with home video of a beaming 15-year-old Walker and goes on to depict him as a “gun-toting hippie . . . a lover and a fighter” who led a big life not just as an actor but as a father and an avid lover of marine and wildlife who had a pipe dream of dropping everything to become a park ranger. It’s set to examine not just the star’s time in the public eye before his death at age 40—but his personal passions, including his humanitarian work in Haiti after the island’s devastating 2010 earthquake. “That guy made the best of every single minute,” said director Wayne Kramer. “He lived five lifetimes.”
