For Brazilian actress Ísis Valverde, less is more. "When you go out in Rio, you don t have people on the street with a lot of makeup—it s our style," she explains on a sunny morning in the city, way before quarantine. "More fresh, more natural, more wild." The brunette bombshell can currently be seen on the small screen, in Amor de Mãe, but she started out as a model, learning backstage beauty secrets that she still uses today.
Valverde begins her skincare routine with a cleanser and mattifying toner, used to combat the humid climate in Rio, which the actress says can lead to oily skin. After dabbing on a primer, she swipes on a sheer foundation. "I don t like to hide my freckles," she says with a smile. Next, to lighten her under-eye area, the actress applies a luminizing concealer and gets to work on her lids, swiping on a duo of shimmering gold cream shadows with her finger.
"I don t like contour," she notes. Instead, she favors a smattering of peony-colored blush across her cheekbones and at the top of her nose for definition instead. "It s like a touch of magic, right?" she says with a flick of her brush. To lift and separate her long lashes, Valverde first manually pushes them apart before applying mascara.
"I prefer more natural eyebrows," she notes while brushing a light gel across her set. As for her lips, the actress has a two-step method: first, a plumping gloss for volume and then a dab of cherry-colored lipstick. Consider the natural strategy the perfect inspiration for your next Zoom call.
