“Right now what this country needs more than anything is love,” said Kelly Rowland as she arrived at the fifth annual Baby2Baby Gala in Los Angeles last night. “And this organization is full of love.” The evening, honoring actress Jennifer Garner for her work with children in need, was attended by a flock of philanthropic-yet-fashionable mothers including Baby2Baby ambassador Jessica Alba (who’s closet you can shop for the cause on Vestaire Collective) and stylist Chriselle Lim, both in Valentino, Miroslava Duma in Gabriela Hearst, Ulyana Sergeenko in a dress from her own line, and Kristen Noel Crawley in a floor-length yellow silk Dior coat and embroidered bustier, along with more than a fair smattering of fathers. “It’s become a real foodie event,” explained copresident Kelly Sawyer Patricof as she greeted guests. “We’re so lucky because now the men want to come for the food.” “I’m excited about the food!” exclaimed Eric Buterbaugh as guests Christina Aguilera and Wiz Khalifa made their way into the event where more than 20 of L.A.’s hottest restaurants including Bar Amá, Otium, and Kismet were dishing up signature bites. This being body-conscious Los Angeles, the biggest draw of the night was KazuNori’s sashimi and hand rolls with Wexler’s Deli coming a close second—“It’s hard to say no to a pastrami sandwich,” professed Matthew McConaughey—while Channing Tatum was seen loading up on Jitlada’s Crying Tiger chicken.
With appetites sated, Baby2Baby ambassador Kate Hudson kicked off the fundraising for the nonprofit organization, which supplies low-income families with diapers, clothing, and basic necessities. Later, McConaughey took to the stage to present honoree Jennifer Garner with the Giving Tree Award for her dedication to helping low-income children and distributing more than 5 million diapers. “By providing diapers, Baby2Baby is meeting a very basic need,” said Garner. “Food stamps don’t cover diapers, and without diapers, children cannot attend daycare which creates a cycle of poverty.” Organized by Oren Cove event planning, more than $3 million was raised over the course of the evening. The crowd was then treated to a performance by Boyz II Men, during which Garner took to the mic to perform the chorus of the band’s hit song “End of the Road,” while red roses were handed out to an adoring crowd that included Liz Goldwyn and Jenna Dewan Tatum. Attendees then danced the night away to more ’90s hits courtesy of DJ Samantha Ronson and satisfied the midnight munchies with burgers from Shake Shack and Jon Vinny’s pizza. “I am so excited to be celebrating five years of Baby2Baby,” said copresident Norah Weinstein as the night wrapped up. “We are now serving one hundred twenty-five thousand children in Los Angeles and, while we have so much further to go, tonight I am just so proud.”
