Jennifer Lopez wrapped her international tour at the end of August; a slew of shows that brought major beauty moments as much as it did pop bangers. Think: extra, extra long chrome nails with 3-D, New York-inspired add-ons, and big, bold, high-drama blowouts for all that hairography.
Since then, she’s spent the last gasps of summer enjoying the season’s juiciest, peachiest tones. From gala events to the Hamptons, the pop star and actress has opted for pastel toned manis to match her flowy, floral Cavalli slip dresses and delicate nudes to complement her more casual, denim-forward looks.
But as Lopez and her go-to nail artist Tom Bachik know, fall signals fashion week, awards season, gala events, and more glamorous affairs—and Jennifer Lopez needs the killer manicure to match.
This time, Lopez stepped out for a screening of her movie Kiss of the Spider Woman, ensconced in a sculptural, sleek beige wrap coat and flowing silk skirt from Harith Hashim. To match the high-octane look, Bachik painted Lopez a fresh, femme fatale set of nails in a deep, rich red color, swapping her more summery shades and chrome details for something more fall-ready.
To achieve the look, Bachik always starts off by creating a flawless manicure base with his trusty Tweezerman tools, and to conceptualize this “vamp vibe,” he used a mix of Apres Nails’s Gel Couleurs in the highly pigmented shades “Midnight Shadow” and “Never Bordeaux.” To finish Bachik added the high-shine, glossy top coat from his own range of Click Colors in “Super Clear.”
Bachik is, of course, Lopez’s favored nail artist of over 15 years, but he also works often with another nail trendsetter: Selena Gomez. Over the course of summer, Bachik painted Gomez some classic French manicures with a pop of red twist, the trending soap nails, and even the no-mani mani for her engagement nails. As summer began to fade into fall, they opted for super feminine, transitional “pink mocha” nails, and then the warm, almost coppery (and soon to be trending) “toasted” manicure.
Lopez has long been queen of the mani, delighting in glossy, luxe neutrals and nudes, sparkling tips, and surprising, trendsetting shades with details that elevate. As Bachik previously told Vogue: “We want a little something something when we’re doing an event nail.”
“The nails are their own thing, but they’re definitely the key accessory,” he said. “It’s almost like part of the jewelry, or if she doesn’t have her handbag or whatever, the nails are that little extra something.”
Lopez has a set vision for her fall manicures—and so far, it’s looking likely to revolve around sultry, seductive reds in deep wine and burgundy tones. Take note for your next nail appointment.
