First came Joey King’s gorgeous, soft-glam wedding hair, done by hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos. Next from the King-Giannetos camp, another hit that includes an unexpected embellishment: flakes of 24-karat gold.
Last night the actor attended a party in Los Angeles honoring Schiaparelli’s creative director, Daniel Roseberry. King’s outfit included a golden Madonna-esque (the singer, not the religious figure) conical bustier top from the spring 2023 collection. Naturally, Giannetos found major inspiration in its shade.
“I wanted to keep her hair simple while still having a gold element,” Giannetos shares. But a hair band or clips wouldn’t do when it came to matching the surrealist sartorial masterpiece. “She needed to look like a golden badass.”
That’s where the 24-karat gold flakes, which looked like stripes of the world’s most luxurious paint, came into play.
The secret to getting the gold flakes to stick on King’s equally golden mane was actually quite simple. “Once I shaped the hair, I sprayed on Uberliss Frizz Elixir Hairspray to make the hair sticky and placed the golden leaves at the crown of Joey’s hair.” After everything was perfectly placed, a little more hairspray and a gentle hit with a blow-dryer locked everything into place.
King’s look was completed by Allan Avendaño, who “layered a few different products” to get that incredible highlight glow: L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Glotion and the recently launched KJH.Brand Hyper Shine High Lite Kit in bronze.
Golden girl takes on a whole new meaning—one we’re definitely here for.
