Every week, Vogue will be spotlighting tastemakers across industries to hear how they’ve been approaching self-care during the coronavirus pandemic. We asked actress, model, and Black Lives Matter advocate Karrueche Tran about how she has been staying sane at home. Here, Tran shares how she’s been practicing self-care, from reading to meditating.
1. I’m reading.
I’m currently reading The Speeches of Fannie Lou Hamer: To Tell It Like It Is. I’ve seen a lot of videos circulating online of Fannie Lou Hamer speaking about racism and oppression from her own experiences. I was curious and wanted to learn more about her.
2. I’m listening to Nina Simone.
I’m currently listening to this Nina Simone playlist called “Nina Her Revolution.” I normally love listening to different types of music based on my current activity, so I have a playlist for the car, when I’m cleaning the house, and even cooking. But lately, I haven’t really been able to enjoy any other styles of music. Nina Simone’s music is just so soulful and speaks volumes, especially with the current climate of what’s happening in our country right now.

3. I’m relaxing.
I’m a big fan of meditation and making sure I take the time to focus on myself and my mental happiness. I’ve been setting the vibe and clearing my mind with Taylor Candle Co. Black Raspberry candles, a small Black-owned candle company I recently came across and love!
