Okay, I know the new, Kim Cattrall–led Netflix show Glamorous is not technically a rebuttal to And Just Like That..., but I’m still extremely excited to see Cattrall (a.k.a. Sam Jones!) back on my TV screen. The show itself is about a young gender-nonconforming makeup obsessive who lands a gig assisting a beauty mogul. Let’s dive in and see what kind of thoughts it sparks, shall we?
- Marco is a beauty influencer with a ring light and a dream (and a mom who’s maybe not that into his job selling makeup at the mall).
- This slow-motion beat application sequence is making me want new eyeshadow.
- Oh shit, Marco’s mom is charging him rent! Time to become a paralegal.
- Oh shit x 2, it’s Kim Cattrall as the beauty mogul, Madelyn Addison! In all red and matching leather fingerless gloves!
- Marco does Madelyn’s makeup, and she takes to him after he gives a motivating speech about how much he loves makeup.
- And just like that (sorry), Marco is Madelyn’s assistant!
- Madelyn’s son, who has the unfortunate name of Chad Addison, is ripped and shiny and kind of a dick.
- I’m obsessed with the social media manager’s jaunty little hat.
- Madelyn was a big model in the ’80s, apparently.
- Damn, Marco is really dragging his boss on Day One, huh?
- Classic office-fish-out-of-water shot of Marco walking directly into a glass door. (Been there.)
- I’m obsessed with Madelyn’s mean gay nepo-baby hunk son.
- Mean ripped gay son wants to “leave the lip glitter to TikTok,” which really just makes me think about Marisa Meltzer’s new book about Glossier and how good it is.
- The office is in Hudson Yards???? Nightmare.
- Marco gets in the wrong Uber by accident, but at least there s a hot guy in there to give him a “you can do hard things” pep talk.
- Aw, there’s a li’l nerdy guy at work who has a crush on Marco.
- Oh no, Marco left product prototypes in the Uber with the hot guy and gets fired!
- Having seen television before, I’m theorizing that this is actually not the end for Marco and Madelyn.
- Venetia, the senior assistant, has been there three years without a promotion. Time to unionize, babe!
- Marco gets the prototypes back from Uber Guy, who is obviously not straight, because he was Ubering to Equinox. Also, we see his ass. Good ass!
- “I’m a twink on PrEP. I can do anything.”
- Obsessed with Marco coming to beg for his job back in a tank top and booty shorts, not to mention it actually working.
- Aw, the cute nerd asks Marco out!
- The mean hunk son is trying to get Marco fired, but Venetia’s not playing along.
- Okay, that was kind of mid, but also cute!
