“Hellloooo, Vogue!” trills the one and only Miss Piggy as she sets about revisiting her Life in Looks. “Took you long enough, don’t you think?”
To be fair, Miss Piggy has been redefining porcine chic since the mid-1970s (though we don’t know her exact age, because a lady never tells), so she was certainly overdue to walk us through her closet—and oh, what a walkthrough that turned out to be!
“I was going for a Roman Greek goddess look, which, as you can imagine, was not much of a stretch,” Miss Piggy giggles as she reflects on the white-and-gold gown she wore in The Muppets Go Hollywood, and indeed, she nailed it—almost as much as she nailed the silver headpiece and ringlets that she sported for the 1980 Academy Awards. And am I the only person a little nostalgic for Miss Piggy’s country-western phase? Bring back that purple cowboy hat!
But pink is really more Miss Piggy’s speed—in fact, it’s one of her “many signature colors.” Case in point: the rosy feathered dress she wore in 1981’s The Great Muppet Caper, designed by her frequent collaborator Calista Hendrickson.
Other high-fashion moments followed, from the eye-catching “glamour and glitz” dress, courtesy of Lela Rose, that Miss Piggy sported at the 2004 Emmys to the plunging lavender frock she had made for her by Zac Posen in 2011 to do press for The Muppets.
Was Miss Piggy pleased that she had to share her Hollywood Walk of Fame star with the rest of the Muppets? Not particularly… but at least the Vivienne Westwood wedding gown she wore in 2014’s Muppets Most Wanted was hers and hers alone. “Despite having that dress, I’m still not married,” Miss Piggy harrumphs. But when you’re this perennially fabulous and well-attired, who needs a ring on your finger?
