Since her breakout moment on Dolce Gabbana s couture runway during Milan Men s Fashion Week last year, Lori Harvey has become a rising star in the industry, on Instagram (with more than half a million followers), and beyond. Now, she s been tapped as a muse by makeup legend Pat McGrath, whom she first met during fashion week. "She took really good care of me backstage," explains 21-year-old Harvey. "And then when she wanted to work together, it was such a dream come true because she’s always been one of my biggest beauty icons." Starring in the makeup artist s latest #InTheMirror series video to celebrate the launch of Pat McGrath Labs Mothership IV: Decadence Eye Palette and latest MatteTrace lipstick shades shades, Harvey s supernatural glow, gorgeous bone structure, and charisma are a lethal combination.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, then raised between Atlanta and Chicago growing up, Harvey had a "pretty normal" upbringing despite having her step-father, Steve Harvey, be a household name. "My parents did a good job of keeping us out of the spotlight and letting us have a normal childhood so we could be kids and not live life under a microscope," she says. "They let us decide if we wanted to be in the industry." But Harvey, who lives in L.A. now, didn t always have her sights set on stardom—horseback riding was her first love. "I wanted to be a professional equestrian," she explains. "But I got injured badly a few years ago, so now I only ride leisurely." Harvey s fascination with beauty began at 13-years-old, when she started following along as her mother, Marjorie Harvey, prepped for events. "I d sit, watch, and ask the makeup artist questions," she says. "Then I d go in my bathroom and try to recreate those looks."
Since then, Harvey has cultivated some serious makeup prowess, particularly when it comes to mastering the art of a fresh, dewy complexion. "You will never catch me without highlighter on," she says, adding that she swears by McGrath s Skin Fetish in "Golden," for instant radiance. But above all else, Harvey loves a bold lip, most often swiping on a range of dramatic reds. "Lori is an obvious muse," explains McGrath. "She s a true beauty who radiates with effortless glamour and has such a rare energy." And considering that McGrath has always had a flair for finding the next big thing—from Harvey s idol, the 90s supermodel Naomi Campbell, to present day Instagram star Paloma Elsesser—it s certain there are even bigger things to come for this rising industry scion.
