In the Spring/Summer 2023 edition of the Vogue Business Index, Louis Vuitton maintained its stronghold with a stellar performance in the consumer sentiment, digital and financial categories. Meanwhile, Fendi returned to its position in the top 10 Index brands, having previously dropped to 11th position in the winter 2022/2023 edition.

Brand performance for the Vogue Business Index was assessed using over 160 data points across consumer sentiment, digital, omnichannel, ESG, innovation and financial results. Financial data is updated annually (in the spring/summer edition), with the stability of the financial pillar in the Winter editions allowing for representative movement in brand ranking.

Changes in the digital landscape saw social platforms Douyin and Xiaohongshu included in the winter 2022/2023 edition due to their growing presence in the Chinese market, while TikTok has been added to this edition, reflecting the platforms growing popularity.

The overall weightings of the category pillars and their metrics are determined through industry relevance and importance to the consumer in order for us to objectively assess a brand’s performance. The final weighting for each category was agreed upon following a review process with our data analysts and expert editors.

Sixty brands were assessed in total. Periodically, we review the brands that are included in the Index. For example, if a brand’s revenue slips below the threshold required for inclusion, we exclude it. In the spring/summer 2023 edition of the Vogue Business Index, there were no changes to the brands assessed for the winter 2022/2023 edition.

Consumer research remains fundamental to the Vogue Business Index, with readers across a number of Condé Nast titles, including Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair and Condé Nast Traveller, participating in a bi-annual luxury consumer sentiment survey that enables us to achieve granularity when it comes to understanding awareness, customer challenges and beliefs about brands.

Future iterations of the Vogue Business Index will also continue to expand the brands, metrics and digital platforms assessed, with new additions being prioritised in line with industry needs and developments.
