“Love” returns with its third volume, investigating the diverse manifestations of love.
“Love” is a publication created by Femxphotographers.org, a group of emerging and established female-identifying and non-binary artists working with photography. The collective has more or less 15 core members: Kirsten Becken, Katharina Bosse, Elodie Grethen, Claudia Holzinger, Oriana Layendecker, Jocelyn Lee, Hanna Mattes, Qiana Mestrich, Lotte Reimann, Caro Siegl, Maggie Steber, Lilly Urbat, Eva Woolridge. They are all united by the goal of curating projects, such as books and exhibitions, to support each other and their artistic careers. They challenge a self-centred and competitive approach often prevalent in the cultural industry by promoting solidarity from within.
Their third publication “LOVE,” to be published this fall, investigates the most narrated and complex of our emotions from different perspectives expanding our notion of love, often associated with its mere romantic connotation. In this book, Femxphotographers.org follows bell hook s conception of love, as theorized in her seminal book “All About Love”: a fundamental and political force in our everyday lives. While wars are raging everywhere in the world, focusing on the good we can do in our lives is more crucial than ever. Love is seen as romantic and non-romantic, and portrayed between families, friends, strangers, and different species on the planet.
The book will present the works by many artists—the core members and guest artists—in black and white, unifying the diverse works through the common denominator of the grey scale—a curatorial choice mirroring the essence of Femxphotographers.org.
