If the rain and unseasonably chilly temperatures started off the fourth day of New York Fashion Week on a waterlogged note, Brock Collection’s Spring 2019 show quickly turned the morning around with its parade of ruffled bustiers, sweeping silks, and lacy, feathered frocks. But it wasn’t just the dreamy ensembles or warm pastries that charmed the (wet) socks off of those seated around Le Coucou’s breakfast tables, but also the deeply romantic hairstyle—a half-up chignon inspired by a fresh-faced, 18-year-old Liv Tyler in the now iconic 1996 film Stealing Beauty.
Backstage, stylist James Pecis noted, “Brock always nails it right on the head with pretty [hair] that girls would actually want to wear”—not to mention that they can actually achieve. “It’s really easy,” he added while blow-drying show-opener Sophie Koella’s raven lengths away from her face—a directional decision that created the style’s soft, swooping texture. From there, Oribe’s volumizing powder was added to roots for “a pop” before a fistful of strands was pulled up and knotted six inches away from the scalp into a bun that sat loose and was secured with just two bobby pins. Consider it the 30-second key to winning hearts this fall.
