Three cheers for Oscar-winning actor and Olivia Colman, who gave us a festive thrill at last night’s Wonka premiere: a new icy white winter hair look.
While the cut was the same gamine crop she has had since she started filming The Crown in 2018, her fresh color gave the style a more modern edge and pulled the focus on to her flawless complexion and big brown eyes. Colman has form with this kind of switch up, having debuted a similar shade at the 2020 Oscars. Back then, she opted for a slightly softer blonde shade with plenty of ashy highlights, but this time around, she showcased a particular shade of platinum which delivered a more otherworldly feel that chimed perfectly with the film’s sense of magic.
If you’re tempted to copy Colman’s style, the key is to keep it sleek and close to the head. For that you’ll need to run a lightweight shine-boosting oil through it before coating your whole head with a soft hold gel like this one. Although it offers control and hold, it won’t leave a stiff or sticky finish, so you won’t run the risk of looking like your hair is stuck to your scalp. To use, apply to fingertips then rub through your hands and sweep through your hair until it’s all coated. For maximum Colman chic, push over to one side and style into a low side parting.
