Ellen Hodakova Larsson launched her namesake label in 2021, just two years after graduating from the Swedish School of Textiles, and almost immediately became one of the industry’s most exciting talents. Working with upcycled materials, Hodakova’s sartorial sensibility stands out not only because of her technical prowess, but because she often injects it with a sense of humor. Case in point, the Hodakova top made of spoons worn by the actress Cate Blanchett, which went instantly viral. On this week’s episode of The Run Through, Hodakova Larsson joins Nicole Phelps and Vogue’s archive editor Laird Borrelli-Persson to talk about her upbringing, her process, and how she’s developed the business side of her label.
“I think we need to try new things. It feels like there’s an era of doing things differently in so many ways that we have to just try things out,” Hodakova Larsson said. “I started my brand directly after graduating and it’s just learning by doing, and I think it’s a good thing because then you don’t end up following systems that have been created before; you’re trying to find your own way in making it work. You create your own system in a way.” Listen to the rest of the conversation below.
