The week the September issue drops is a big moment at Vogue; it’s like back-to-school, but better—and earlier. And this year packed quadruple the excitement with an iconic group cover featuring the original quartet of supermodels: Christy, Naomi, Linda, Cindy—no last names needed.
In its honor, we spoke to Sally Singer, Vogue’s former digital creative director and the current head of Fashion Direction for Amazon, who wrote the amazing story accompanying Rafael Pavarotti’s photoshoot. It’s always a treat for me and Chioma to interview a friend or former colleague, and Sally is both.
We loved hearing the behind-the-scenes details that went into writing about these leggy legends. Sally, a longtime Vogue cover story writer, talked about the difference in writing about women today versus 20 years ago, the career and personal arcs of the supers, and what it was like watching them pose together on set for the cover shoot. She spent time with all four, and deftly walks the tightrope of revealing delightful personal anecdotes while also respecting their privacy.
