The PhotoVogue Festival, the first conscious fashion photography festival that focuses on the common ground between ethics and aesthetics, returns for its eighth edition. From March 6th to 9th, 2025, BASE Milano will host a series of exhibitions and talks analysing the interrelation between humans and Nature, and the relations of kinship we can create with animals, complemented by satellite events at the city s finest galleries.
Synopsis
Moderated by Elisa Medde, an esteemed photography editor, curator, and writer, this panel delves into the intersection of documentary photography and surrealism. Medde, whose career spans celebrated roles as Editor-in-Chief of Foam Magazine and curator for major photography awards and festivals, brings her deep understanding of visual storytelling to this exploration of magical realism in contemporary photography.
Featuring artists from The Tree of Life: A Love Letter to Nature and Latin America Panorama, the panel includes Alessandro Bo, Lisandro Suriel, Ioanna Sakellaraki, Aletheia Casey, Gui Christ, Dolores Medel, Fernanda Pineda, Igor Furtado and Labō Young. In The Story Behind the Image, each artist will present their work, weaving personal narratives into their visual creations as their images are projected on a large screen.
The discussion that follows will focus on the surreal and magical approaches these artists use to tell compelling stories. From dreamlike imagery to layered metaphors, their work challenges traditional documentary norms, offering imaginative perspectives on universal themes. This panel invites audiences to consider how the blending of reality and fantasy can create powerful and transformative visual narratives.
