PhotoVogue is excited to partner with Cult of Magic, a collective that blends contemporary dance, music, and performance art. Founded in Milan in 2017 by Francesco Sacco, Samira Cogliandro, Giada Vailati, and Luca Pasquino, Cult of Magic creates performances at the intersection of contemporary dance, music, and art. With past collaborations at major venues like Triennale Milano, Museo Novecento in Florence, and the Venice Biennale, the collective s work continually pushes the boundaries of creative expression. Their performances, such as Le Serpent Rouge and Questo è il mio corpo (un’altra Ofelia), have been showcased in a variety of spaces, from museums to nightclubs, challenging the norms of where and how art can be experienced. Their latest works integrate the energy of clubbing and techno music with powerful, socially-conscious narratives.
On Friday, March 7th, Cult of Magic will present their live performance Re Penelope at the PhotoVogue Festival Party, held at the iconic Plastic Club in Milan. Known for its legendary atmosphere and for hosting legends like Madonna, Elton John, and Keith Haring, the Plastic Club continues to be a beacon for creative expression, offering a diverse program of DJs, live performances, and artistic events.
The performance Re Penelope draws inspiration from the political protests in Santiago, Chile on November 25, 2019, led by the feminist collective LASTESIS against gender violence, femicide, and patriarchy. The performance fuses contemporary themes with mythological elements, reinterpreting traditional archetypes by portraying female rulers, centaur women, travelers, and heroines. Set to a live techno soundtrack featuring analog synthesizers, acoustic instruments, and drum machines, the performance is further enhanced by a live projection by PhotoVogue photographer Lucrezia Testa Iannilli, which explores the merging of human and animal, future and ancestral.
The entrance is free until full capacity is reached. RSVP here.
