Met Gala 2024’s “Garden of Time” theme packs an inherent poeticism, and makes an ideal backdrop for a mane renaissance, too. Riley Keough ditched her darker tresses of late in favor of a deep interpretation of her signature ginger strands. Styled for the evening by celebrity hair stylist Mara Roszak, Keough’s moody auburn came furnished with a wave pattern that owed something to a century past.
“Riley was an ethereal dream,” says Roszak. “I created a subtle 1920’s wave inspired by the classic Chanel gown.” Pre-blowout, Roszak applied blend of her own RŌZ Santa Lucia Styling Oil and Milk Hair Serum to Keough’s damp hair for maximum smoothness. Once hair was dry and a selection of extensions—namely Luxy s 20" Seamless Natural Red Clip-Ins, toned to match Keough s deep red—were placed, Roszak used a 1” curling iron to create the waves, relying on pin curls to hold the shape. And though at front the moment looked demure, gentle finger waves tucked behind each ear, there was a Met-worthy party in the back. “I added a velvet bow to the back and included a floor length silk chiffon ribbon to create an airy soft flow,” she says.
The revived red offered a counter to Keough’s turn in Daisy Jones the Six, which saw her shaking out an interminable mane of ginger. IRL, it seems, understated romanticism—the same sort exuded by her sequined Chanel—reigns.
