The next (surprising) body part in line for a full-blown glow up? Your ears. And when I say glow up, I don’t mean a little bit of highlighter, I’m talking full, megawatt, Pat McGrath-embellished levels of glow up, which is exactly what happened at Schiaparelli’s spring/summer 2024 haute couture show in Paris on Monday.

“At Schiaparelli, there is always an element of sparkle and the surreal,” McGrath told Vogue. “This season, that came in the form of one crystallized ear on several of our alien beauties.” Painted with silver pigment and covered in hundreds of tiny crystals–a process which took around three hours per model–these light-catching bejeweled ears are a marriage of shimmering makeup and chunky, equally dazzling earrings.

“The bejeweled ears blur the line between what is makeup and what is jewelery, what is familiar and what is not, and what is human and what is something else,” adds McGrath, who paired the look with otherworldly skin. Combining her Skin Fetish: Highlighter + Balm Duo with the new Skin Fetish: Sublime Skin Highlighter in Nude Opal, models’ skin was luminous and beautiful, and completely ethereal.

Of course, it’s not the first time that McGrath and her team have gone to town on embellished beauty looks. At the beginning of last year, it took her just under five hours to apply a casual 30,000 red crystals to Doja Cat’s face and body, ahead of that season’s Schiaparelli presentation. One of the most notable moments from last year’s couture shows, this new take on sparkle is just that little bit more wearable.
