The Golden Globes tends to run the glamour gamut, the red carpet serving as a backdrop for a parade of stylized, sophisticated, and funky looks. For Selena Gomez, an asymmetrical red satin gown from Armani Privé successfully encapsulated all three categories—and featured black florets that inspired an onyx manicure to match.
The work of nail artist Tom Bachik, Gomez s goth girl nail moment was accomplished using Essie polish in Licorice, along with Bachik s calling card (read: immaculate) manicure.
“Selena told me ‘I don’t want the nails to get lost in everything,’ so we wanted nails to be an integral part of making this look edgy,” Bachik tells Vogue. “I love a black nail as it can symbolize strength and confidence while looking chic and sexy.”

The classic cool-girl color furthered Gomez s natural nail length and shape, while playing up her dress s beaded blooms. A gel-like top coat and an assemblage of diamond jewelry from Bulgari furthered the high-shine polish job—one wholly worthy of award season s first leg.
