In late 2022, Italian actor Simona Tabasco starred in The White Lotus’s second season—and a hair movement akin to “The Rachel” was born. Dubbed “The Italian Bob” because of Tabasco’s country of origin and the romantic, la dolce vita ease that the haircut conjures, the style—a chin-length bob parted to the side and worn with a lot of body—soon began popping up everywhere.

A little over a year later, we’ve seen the chop on everybody from Hailey Bieber to Zendaya (and this editor has it herself)—and it’s still going strong on the 2024 awards circuit. That is, except for on Tabasco herself, who arrived at tonight’s Emmy Awards with hair that reaches…beyond her collarbone?!

Is it time to put down the proverbial shears? (I only say “proverbial” because I would never be able to cut my own hair.) Are we following Tabasco into longer-hair pastures? Only time will tell if lengths continue to grow, or if the bob is here to stay. But for tonight, Tabasco’s Old Hollywood hair (perfectly paired with a Marni sticker dress) is great springtime inspiration.
