The spring 2024 ready-to-wear season was characterized by unpredictable weather (heat wave in New York, deluges in Milan), which impacted the season’s street style trends. But luckily for us, showgoers will always dress to the nines no matter the temperatures.
Some trends reflect atmospheric needs, like the cardigan tied over the shoulders or the shopping-bag capes that attempted to protect actual leather goods. In contrast, others felt like they reflected a specific moment in time, like the green-and-pink Polly Pocket look. Those born in the 2000s may associate this with Cosmo and Wanda from the Nickelodeon cartoon The Fairly Odd Parents, while for others the color combo is more an ode to the viral moment from Loewe’s fall 2023 show.
The runways aren’t the only source of inspiration—especially when there’s social media and TikTok to keep track of. According to the internet, the latest must-have item is a pair of Martine Rose’s vibrant Nike Shox sneakers, while according to New York City’s Gen Z’ers, a metallic bottom is a must-have in your going-out uniform.
As always, our street style trend report for the season isn’t complete without an appearance from Miu Miu. The influence of the fall 2023 collection—where Mia Goth, Abby Champion, Rianne Van Rompaey, and their model pals walked in sheer skirts and tiny librarian reading glasses—was felt all over the streets.
Scroll through for the 13 street style trends that defined the spring 2024 season.
