Viasaterna is pleased to present the digital project Videodiary by Takashi Homma, on the occasion of the Photo Vogue Festival, in its web section "Focus", a space for in-depth analysis on projects, works and artists. Videodiary is a collection of twenty-eight videos recorded every day and edited over a period of weeks, in which the artist recounts the period of quarantine in his city, Tokyo.
Videodiary follows Homma s particular interest in the city on which she focuses for the projects of Tokyo Suburbia (1998) in which she offered a portrait also of the vibrancy of the city and those who inhabit it, and the international project of The Narcissistic City (2016) made in a number of cities of the world, including Tokyo, New York, and Milan on the occasion of the first solo exhibition in Viasaterna, with photographs that show an abstract, suspended portrait of contemplation and investigation of the urban landscape.
The images come back to tell us about the city of Tokyo, this time deserted, with the cherry blossom reflected in the water of the Shakujii canal, the monumental skyscrapers tidy and silent, the moon high in the sky every evening; together with the private space of the artist with the care of the house, the music that resonates in the rooms, the morning yoga, the loved ones and their interviews, the garden and its plants. As the frames and days pass, the city awakens, shyly teeming with some noise, illuminated by neon signs illustrating the morning, the first planes high in the sky can be seen, and the happy voices of children in the park begin to be heard.
