A dress is never just a dress for Taylor Swift. The singer is so well known for leaving Easter eggs for her fans to pick up on that she literally wrote a song called “Mastermind.” So when she attended Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley’s New Jersey wedding in a pale blue dress, it seemed only natural to speculate about what the choice could mean. In Swift’s own words “none of it was accidental.”

Swift looked wedding-appropriate in a light blue lace dress by Erdem, with a boned bodice and asymmetrical flouncy hemline. Accessorized with her signature red lip and sparkly sandals, it would have been a perfectly pretty outfit for anyone. But on Swift, it’s a layered choice. You see, Swift just announced that she will be releasing 1989 (Taylor’s Version) on October 27. And blue is the color associated with the 1989 era, so much so that at the August 8th Eras tour stop in Los Angeles, Swift wore five new blue ensembles—a sartorial move that foreshadowed that she was announcing the re-release that night. (The date, 8/9, was also a major hint).

So Taylor Swift is firmly in her blue/1989 era, and it was only appropriate that she wear that to the wedding. It’s also touching, considering that Antonoff was heavily involved in the making of 1989 as a producer and co-writer of the hits “Out of the Woods,” “I Wish You Would,” and “You Are In Love.” Antonoff and Swift have worked together on every Swift album since. But surely, this was less special to Antonoff than the 15-minute speech Swift reportedly gave at the wedding.

But while we’re speculating, it’s notable that Swift wore a black Hill House Home two-piece set to the rehearsal dinner. Maybe a reference to the currently-unannounced-but-definitely-happening-sometime Reputation (Taylor’s Version)?
