Some years ago, Kim Kardashian explained at a press conference in Milan that she and her stylist had made a Dolce Gabbana dream list, comprising dozens of archival looks from the brand that Kim would then acquire whenever she found them available. She pulled from that ever-growing collection when dressing for her sister Kourtney’s wedding in Portofino, and that set off what grew into the Kim x Dolce Gabbana spring 2023 collection, based on D&G pieces from 1987 to 2007.
“She’s a curator of our collection,” explained Stefano Gabbana. Domenico Dolce said that 80 percent of the time the team of three gravitated toward the same things. Prints weren’t high on Kardashian’s wish list, but in the end, she said, “The boys brought out a little leopard in me.” As for the palette: “To me color is the crystals.”
Sewed onto many of the pieces that came down the runway was a tag indicating the season the garment was from, which inspired a memory match game with the extensive Vogue Runway archive. See the results, below.
