Tommy’s the Top! Tommy Hilfiger Celebrates His Memoir

“I’d been asked to do the book by a few different people and I kept saying ‘no,’ ” laughed Tommy Hilfiger at the center of the Clocktower at the New York Edition last night. “So I started doing it and this is great therapy.” The result is Hilfiger’s memoir, American Dreamer, which chronicles the business leader’s trajectory from start to present day. “Going back in time, thinking about all the different things that went on in my life and a lot of great memories,” added Hilfiger who was swarmed by a coterie of fashion’s most influential—and fun!—figures including Naomi Campbell, Silas Chou, Terry Lundgren, and countless others hoping to congratulate the all-American icon.

As Alexandra Richards spun tracks, others including Christie Brinkley; Karolina Kurkova; and Hilfiger’s latest collaborator, Gigi Hadid, shimmied in the space while snagging selfies with the designer. Looking back, did Hilfiger have any fun moments in writing the book? “Talking about opening my first business in the ’70s selling bell-bottoms and fringed vests,” exclaimed the author with a laugh. And with a room that included rock legends like Marky Ramone and sports icons like Serena Williams and Victor Cruz, is there anybody Hilfiger still wants to dress? “I love Taylor Swift, I love Rihanna, I like the stars today,” said Hilfiger, adding, “[but] I’m pretty happy with Gigi wearing my clothes and helping me design them."
