Athens is an oxymoron-city- Its flamboyant mythological heritage coexists with its dark and dramatic political-economic situation. It is a blinding light that reveals its violence and its twilight faces. And yet we feel a life force much more intense than elsewhere. The idea of resistance takes on its full meaning. Bodies tirelessly rise up to face the chaos of history as one. In permanent revolution.
"Except the clouds" by Berangère Fromont is the attempt to transform this city-oxymoron into photographic images, taking into account the complexity of the contemporary in its different temporal layers.
"In a landscape where nothing was recognizable, except the clouds, and in the middle, in a field of forces crossing tensions and destructive explosions, the tiny and fragile human body": with this phrase of Walter Benjamin always in mind, as an invisible and obsessive thread, the artist seeks light in the ruins of Attica.
‘Except the Clouds’ is not only this, it is a reflection on the place of the human in a civilization in decline and its fragility.
Published in 2018 by the independent publisher Void, "Except the clouds" has received important awards as photography book and it will be exhibited this fall in Palermo in the spaces of Via Giacalone 33, underlining once again the multidisciplinary approach of Minimum in the proposed installations, characterized by the contamination of the authors involved: the work presented has been nailed down by the photographer and the publishing house in a photobook and eventually is presented as wall installation, produced and hosted in the spaces of Minimum. Minimum is located in a former warehouse in the historical centre of Palermo and was created to host and promote photography in Palermo, giving space to the experiences of professionals working in the industry.
The appointment will be held from September 26th until November 2nd, from Wednesday to Saturday, 5-7 PM.
