“We cannot afford to feel paralyzed by the scale of the challenge nor can we afford to wait for someone else to act - this is up to us.” Ami Vitale
Created to raise awareness and support projects dedicated to biodiversity conservation, the 2024 Annual Print Initiative gathers 100 fine-art prints from photographers such as Nick Brandt, Jim Naughten, Brian Skerry, Cristina Mittermeier, and Ami Vitale. These timeless images urge us to take action, showcasing the beauty of nature and our responsibility to preserve it. As stated by Ami Vitale, founder of Vital Impacts: “Photography acts as a catalyst for understanding and compassion, inspiring action and fostering meaningful connections. Each image deepens our awareness of the intricate ties between humanity and the natural world.”
Funds raised through the initiative will be donated to the Convening Group of Indigenous Peoples in the Amazon, contributing to the preservation of the Amazon rainforest. This vital ecosystem plays a fundamental role in the global environment, with over 40,000 plant species, 1,300 bird species, and millions of insects.
Alongside the Annual Print Initiative, Vital Impacts is launching “Saving the Monarchs,” featuring the work of National Geographic photographer Jaime Rojo. With the Monarch Butterfly population declining by 90% in recent decades, sixty percent of the campaign s proceeds will support indigenous communities through COICA, as well as organizations focused on the preservation and restoration of the Monarch Butterfly (Monarch Watch and FOCEN - Conservation Fund for the Neo-Volcanic Axis). The remaining proceeds will support storytellers who highlight these critical themes, inspiring positive change.
The initiative will end on January 31, 2025. Discover more on Vital Impacts.
