It’s the beginning of fashion month, and Vogue editors are on the run—to shows, events, and plenty of commuting in between. So, what to wear—especially during fluctuating weather? Answers differ. Market Editor Anny Choi has summer-to-fall transitions on the brain and is going the sandal route, specifically with the brand Hobes, while Archive Editor Laird Borrelli-Persson is holding on to the last days of summer with a bucket bag by Saddlers Union.
As to how to survive the soaring temperatures here at New York Fashion Week, Fashion News Writer Emily Farra will take a practical approach, hoping to beat the heat in pieces like elevated denim courtesy of Bliss and Mischief jeans and block-heel tortoise shell sandals by Dear Frances. Beauty Editor Jenna Rennert is also trying to stay sweat-free, opting for cool linen in the form of a dress by Sleeper. As for the ultimate wish-list item, rain or shine, Style Editor Edward Barsamian is dreaming of an Hermès Kelly bag.

I spied a beautiful Hermès Kelly bag on Moda Operandi’s Lauren Santo Domingo during couture in July, and knew that I had to have that piece. Lo and behold, I spied it on Moda’s website for sale. The beautiful combination between the osier wicker and the Barenia leather is an elegant pairing that will go well with my muted wardrobe and help extend the summer style vibes well into autumnal territory.

What I want to wear and what I will realistically have to wear are two very different things! I know I’ll regret saying I’m ready for summer to end, but it’s true—I’ve got a pile of dresses that need dry cleaning, but I’d rather spend my cash on new fall pieces. My ideal Fashion Week outfit invariably involves jeans (usually Citizens of Humanity or Bliss and Mischief), and I like the idea of wearing a blazer with gladiator sandals—but given the 90-degree days we’ve been having, I’m more likely to wear something breezy and simple, like this white linen dress. I’d wear it all week with different accessories, like Lizzie Fortunato’s Mood hoops (obsessed!) and these new Dear Frances tortoise-heeled sandals. When it’s blisteringly hot and you’re taking the subway between shows, it’s hard to care about repeating an outfit.

Who doesn’t need a little bit of luck?

I have pantsuits on the brain, New York Fashion Week heat wave be damned. This Pallas two-piecer by Self Service’s Claire Thomson-Jonville is at the top of my list. I’d wear it with a little tank top now and turtlenecks this fall.
Brooke Bobb
I am really coveting anything and everything from Marine Serre’s latest collection, particularly her neoprene and moiré silk dress with black velvet. Ideally I’d wear it with the beautiful new glass earrings from Agmes, and Staud’s little black patent-leather bucket bag.
Laura Regensdorf
End of summer is more bitter than sweet, which makes it helpful to have a metaphorical carrot leading the way forward. This Acne blazer is just that. The fabric has an imperceptible depth of color (more rust than pumpkin), and the boyish cut is just right. I tried it on in Berlin last week and didn’t pull the trigger—but it’s not too late!

To help cope with summer
s end and September
s beginning, I think I need a luxurious robe to slip into when I get home from this week’s rush. My friend, the designing wunderkind and impeccably dressed Maya Reik, makes a luxurious kimono-style robe with tassels for ties that would suit me marvelously.
Jenna Rennert
Considering the 90-degree weather in New York City this week, a long linen dress seems like the ultimate no-brainer. And all that running around requires a pair of fun, patterned flats that say hello, fall!
Anny Choi
This September I will most likely be wearing my Hobes every day. Not only are they super-comfortable for running around during fashion month, they are the perfect summer-to-fall transition shoes. As for my “wish list,” I would love a new bag for fall; I am thinking a vintage Gucci backpack. Also, I am a sucker for cashmere sweaters from Khaite and The Row in the colder months.

There are two practical things I need this fall, which is a new black tee and these golden Eckhaus Latta sunglasses, and about one zillion frivolous things I want. Top on the gotta-have-it list is this tartan Sacai skirt and LHD’s Dinette dress. Both well out of my budget but intensely covetable.
Madeline Fass
Although I’ll have to wait for the heat wave to pass before I can slide into this pair of straight-leg Calvin Klein jeans, I am excited to break out structured raw denim this September. I am still very into all things animal print, and this Amélie Pichard top-handle zebra bag would be a major addition to my look for fall! I also love these black silk mules from By Far, especially since I am not fully committed to wearing boots just yet.
Alexandra Michler
I am looking forward to a streamlined look this fall. I will be wearing my Khaite Beatrice pant with this Brock velvet top. Elegant for day into evening . . . ideal for Fashion Week when there is not a moment to spare!

The perfect earring that poses both a political and fashion statement and the easiest bag to take on the go and fit all my Fashion Week needs in!

Okhtein is easily one of my favorite bag brands. Its handbags are effortlessly cool and add unique edge to every outfit. I particularly love this belt bag because of the complementary tones and contrasting materials. I have been eyeing Rombaut shoes from afar for what feels like forever now. I’m super-hyped about this cowboy sneaker that has been spotted on Bella Hadid and other stars. Not to mention it only uses vegan leather! When I discovered Yuul Yie, it was love at first sight. The shoes have creative silhouettes reminiscent of Suzanne Rae or Reike Nen. Especially love this pair, which I feel are a take on the classic Mary Jane sandal. Martine Ali’s chain necklaces are eye-catching. My best friend has one that I always steal, so it’s inevitable that one should go on my wish list.
Laird Borrelli-Persson
I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer. This Saddlers Union bucket doesn’t look so different from the one my son and I used to collect snails and shells at the beach. As for the caftan, I know Pierre-Louis Mascia first as an illustrator, and it’s a delight to follow him in his other career. This flowy, patchwork-y dress just feels like the dress of the summer to me.
Monica Kim
I’m back into statement earrings—the bigger, the better—and have been eyeing these crystal and pearl Simone Rocha beauties at Dover Street Market. They’d look extra nice grazing a boxy blazer, like this gray checked version from Raf Simons, perhaps thrown over a pretty midi dress—I love this gorgeous lilac knit from Kwaidan Editions.

The fun (and practical!) accessories I’m going to be relying on to get me through a week of running around in all sorts or weather to all sorts of places.

There is a classic quote by Meg Ryan’s character in Nora Ephron’s You’ve Got Mail that reads: “Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” And while the weather doesn’t exactly feel like autumn just yet, I love the idea of channeling the back-to-school charm of September in the city with a few bold, schoolgirl-inspired accessories (i.e., an oversize, brightly colored tam-o’-shanter and a proper lady bag in any style of check or plaid . . . plus a fun earring in an interesting shape for a bit of quirk!).

I collect hand jewelry, so I just about died and went to heaven when I saw Of Rare Origin’s carved ebony palm earrings—with flowers, leaves, and pearls, no less! To offset the hefty price tag, I’d reach for go-with-anything basics like Eliana Gil Rodriguez’s comfy camis and slinky slip skirts found on The RealReal.
