In the latest cultural example of not letting sleeping dogs lie, it was recently announced that the HBO series Big Little Lies would be returning for a third season—or, at least, it was confirmed that Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman were hard at work on another installment—and IMO, what Reese sets out to do, Reese accomplishes.
Big Little Lies was right up there with The White Lotus in its ability to turn stunt-casting into a genuine TV event—after all, where would we be without the Meryl scream?—and I have full faith in the principals’ ability to create something I’ll watch religiously on Sunday nights, even if just to fill the lingering Succession-shaped void in my life. To that end, Vogue’s staff and I have dream-casted the actors we’d be most thrilled to see in Monterey. Read all our humble prayers to David E. Kelly and co. below:
Faye Dunaway would be perfect as Madeline’s (Reese Witherspoon) domineering perfectionist mother. I would love to see them, clad in cashmere, stroll the shores of Monterey with Abigail (Kathryn Newton). –Ian Malone, experiences manager
Heather Gay and Meredith Marks. The season finale of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City proved that these women need a bigger stage than reality television! –Irene Kim, production and editorial coordinator, Vogue Runway
Personally, I think this is the time for Mary-Kate and Ashley to come back to the screen playing the same person: a long lost sister-in-law to Nicole Kidman. Or Gwyneth Paltrow as the new mom in the crew who just escaped the East Coast following a ski accident and lawsuit. She is buying Laura Dern’s mansion, so there’s beef there. —Jose Criales-Unzueta, fashion news writer, Vogue Runway
I want Skyler Gisondo in there for some reason. —Hannah Jackson, fashion writer
An original main title song by Lana Del Rey—no further explanation. —Lilah Ramzi, senior commerce editor
