While designing her latest collection, Andrea Lieberman kept flashing back to an image of Debbie Harry looking tough in Amos Poe s 1978 film The Foreigner. She put her own spin on that Blondie moment with punky leather jackets and zipped stovepipes. Lieberman s touch, even on tough-girl classics, is glamorous. One of the bikers even came with allover gold studs. Her not-so-basic tee was done in haircalf stamped with a cable pattern. Her sweatshirt—the latest in fashion s long and getting longer line of fetishized sweats—incorporated glossy ponyhair and tech-y nylon.
This season Lieberman also raised the bar for luxury at A.L.C., by experimenting with fabrics that had more depth and structure, like a wood-grain jacquard that was cut into a super slim suit. But the ultimate takeaway here was great outerwear: Classic, substantial wool coats with leather sleeves or fur collars were piled over leather jackets and chunky sweaters for a layered mix that felt modern.
