A.L.C.

PRE-FALL 2012

By Andrea Lieberman

Andrea Lieberman approached pre-fall with the intention to do a collection inspired by the oft-referenced film Belle de Jour. Before long, though, the A.L.C. designer scrapped that idea and decided to "just make real clothes for real girls." A simple message, yes, but one that can be surprisingly difficult for some. Not Lieberman. You could imagine a cool off-duty model like Aymeline Valade (or any downtown chick, for that matter) wearing look 10: a Peter Pan-collar denim button-up paired with a quilted leather biker jacket and slim yet relaxed twill trousers.

"I ve been looking at things from the inside out lately," Lieberman explained, stressing that she s put an increased focus on tailored pieces like the sharp, coated herringbone trench and pants with turned-down waistbands. One of her favorite pieces is a dress with a micro print of birds in flight derived from the flocks she notices while driving her daughter to school. That kind of attention to detail is what elevates A.L.C. s straightforward essentials.
