Given the choice between diamonds or pearls, we would ve pegged Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs as diamonds girls. But the designers proved us wrong with their new Pre-Fall lineup, which was heavily accented with pearls. The "body bijoux," as they described it, looked best tracing along the bust and bare shoulder blades of a long-sleeved column gown with a dramatic open back. According to Cushnie, the result was "a little more romantic but still sexy." One thing was for sure: These weren t your grandmother s pearls.
Citing pearls and the recurrence of egg shapes in Salvador Dalí s art, the duo replaced their typical sharp cutouts with round ones. Elsewhere, they added fluttery georgette insets to a stretchy viscose frock that came in a rich shade of burgundy, and showed a pretty scoop-neck number with an asymmetric, draped cascade in front. All things considered, the collection revealed a new, softer side of Cushnie et Ochs while still maintaining its provocative edge.
