Ports 1961

RESORT 2012

By Fiona Cibani

For Resort, Ports 1961 is shooting sharp. Creative director Fiona Cibani applied lean tailoring to a cape jacket with strong, sculpted shoulders, as well as to a simple sheath with origami-like pleating and laser-cut slits. This strict silhouette factored in throughout. There were noteworthy suiting separates like a long, menswear-inspired vest with slim lapels, an item that could double as a minidress. On the softer side, a sky blue and lemon-colored shift had a pretty, mixed-lace overlay and asymmetrical neckline, and a few slinky knit looks appeared to be sprayed-painted in silver—one dress had a sexy, sheer panel zigzagging down one side. This collection didn t scream "Ports," but who cares about brand identity when you ve got edgy but wearable pieces that would fit in with most women s wardrobes? The label gets an A for definite improvement.
